Lawmaker Sentenced to 5 Years for Child Porn

A former New Jersey assemblyman was sentenced to a five-year term for viewing nude images of underage girls.

The state Corrections Department will decide whether Neil Cohen will serve the term in prison or in a mental hospital within the next 10 days. Cohen has been hospitalized for months, according to his lawyer, Mark Tuohey. Tuohey told the judge the former assemblyman has been suicidal and has several mental health issues, including chronic depression. Cohen pleaded guilty in April to endangering the welfare of a child (distribution of child pornography). He served 17 years in the state Legislature before resigning following his arrest in July 2008.
