DUI Checkpoint was Scheduled for Redding on Thursday

The Redding Police Department will hold a DUI and driver's license checkpoint this Thursday.  The Department has not announced the exact location and time for the checkpoint.   Redding Police will also be conducted distracted driver checks, specifically targeting cell phone use while driving. The fine for texting or using a cell phone without a hands free device is $159 for a first offense and $279 for each subsequent offense.  

Last week, on April 4 th the Fontana Police Department conducted a DUI Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Jurupa Avenue and Beech Avenue in Fontana.   Two people were arrested on DUI charges out of the 797 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint. Approximately 40 citations were issued including several for driving without a license and 31 vehicles were towed.  

These events are part of a DUI checkpoint grant which focuses on DUI enforcement and is provided by the Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
